5 Tips for AC Repairing

5 Tips for AC Repairing in Dallas: Air conditioning is a necessity in many homes. It keeps homes cool during the summer and warm during the winter. Additionally, air conditioners help the environment by reducing energy consumption. There are many brands and models of air conditioners, which makes it hard to select the right unit for your home. Most homeowners have complaints about their air conditioners, but few repair their units correctly. This is due to the economic cost of replacing their system. Severely cooled rooms become unrepairable, which wastes energy and money.

Know Your Air Conditioner Type

Before you begin any repair work, you need to know what type of air conditioner you have. There are two types of air conditioning systems: split system and central. Split-system units are designed to cool only one room at a time, while central units cool several rooms simultaneously. If you’re unsure about what kind of system you have, contact your local HVAC company.

Check the Filter

If your filter is dirty, you may notice a decrease in airflow. To check if your filter is clogged, turn off the power switch and open the vents. You should hear a slight whistling sound. If you do not hear anything, then your filter is probably clean. However, if you still hear a loud noise, replace the filter immediately.

Clean Out the Coils

The coils inside your unit collect dirt and debris over time. When they become clogged, the efficiency of your air conditioner decreases. To keep your coils clean, remove them from the unit and wash them thoroughly. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dirt and debris. Then, use a brush to scrub away the grime. Finally, rinse the coils under warm water.

Replace the Thermostat

Your thermostat controls the temperature of your home. A malfunctioning thermostat could cause your air conditioner to run constantly, even when no one is home. To prevent this problem, make sure that the thermostat is set correctly. Also, check the batteries in the thermostat regularly. If you find that the battery is dead, replace it immediately.

Inspect the Unit

After cleaning the coils, inspect the rest of your air conditioner. Look for cracks, leaks, and damage. If you find something wrong, call your HVAC company right away.
